My topic this week: Restaurant Nutrition Calculators

Earlier this week, I had a lunch meeting at a local mall’s food court. In an effort to make a somewhat healthier choice in this situation, I turned to our good friend, Google. I quickly found that Chipotle has a very fast and simple nutrition calculator.

My Burrito Bowl - no rice, black beans, Barbacoa (spicy beef), hot and mild salsa, guac, lettuce - YUM!

Every option Chipotle has on their service line is listed with a check box. I quickly built my favorite burrito and found it was about 800 calories. I’m trying to stay around 500 calories for lunch so I went back and removed the tortilla and cheese from the selection. That got me right in my target range.

What was even better was the new knowledge that what I was ordering was somewhat low in carbs and very high in fiber. I think the only thing that was really out of range was the sodium at around 1900 mg. That’s the price of eating out – restaurants love salt in their recipes.

In preparing this post, I found a few other restaurants with similar calculators. The list is below:

  • Chipotle
  • KFC
  • Taco Bell
  • Hardees

If you know of more restaurant nutrition calculators similar to these, please share in the comments below!
