CP Palate: Beer Gardens NYC

Hoping to channel your inner Oktoberfest this summer? Well strap on those lederhosen and lace up that dirndl. We’ve found five local beer gardens that will have you yodeling in no time at all. Prost!

An oldie but always a goodie, the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria has been serving up steins and sausages since the late 1800’s. One of the last remaining of New York’s original outdoor beer gardens, head here during the day to enjoy the sunshine and an impressive array of both German and American brews. 2919 24th Avenue, 718.274.4925

The East Village’s indoor beer garden, Zum Schneider, has won a variety of “best of” awards since it first opened its doors in 2000. Prepare to kick up your heels with the Oom-pah band on August 19, when the cash-only establishment celebrates its ninth year anniversary. 107 Ave C @ East 7th Street, 212.598.1098

Hosting over 18,000 square feet of beer-guzzling space is the fresh-faced, new-kid-on-the-block Studio Square in Long Island City. But with 15 different beers to choose from, live music, and both indoor and outdoor beer gardens, the square will easily compete with some of the NYC’s top dogs. 35-33 36th Street, 718.383.100

You’ll feel worlds away from NYC at the Lederhosen German Wurst and Bierhaus in the West Village, where staff members are bedazzled in over-the-top traditional German attire. Hosting generous portions and affordable prices, stop by Lederhosen for a frothy 17-ounce brew and a hot German pretzel with mustard. 39 Grove Street, 212.206.7691

Loreley Restaurant and Biergarten is a far cry from Lederhosen. Channeling the contemporary look of a younger German generation, Loreley sidesteps the stereotypical garb and music. But the tradition of hearty German food and drink remains, with Loreley’s 12 available imported German beers and home-style German comfort food. 7 Rivington Street, 212.253.7077
