Beauty 101: How To Make Small Eyes Look Big

Not everyone can have the large, luminous eyes of a Zooey Dechanel or a Daria Werbowy. But who says you can’t fake it?

With a few products — like white eyeliner, neutral shadow, white shadow, brown eyeliner, mascara and an eyelash curler — and a few tricks of the trade, you can go from small to big in less than 15 minutes.

How, you ask? Here goes:

1. Sweep a neutral, bone-colored shadow from eyelid to eyebrow. Remember, light shades brighten and expand, dark colors do the opposite.

2. Apply white eye shadow under your brow bone and blend well. This is key to giving your peepers that wide-eyed look. Also put a little bit on the center of your eyelids for that brightening effect. I like to use the Nylon shade from MAC.

3. Line your upper lashes with brown eyeliner, extending to just past the outer corner of your eye and then smudge slightly with a cotton swab. Repeat along your lower lashes.

4. Use white eyeliner to rim the inner corners of your eye. This step is arguably the most important.

5. Curl eyelashes and apply three to four coats of mascara, as per usual.

Follow these simple steps, and Zooey nor Daria will have anything on you.
